Update Jinack community clinic December 2008
After a recent visit it is time for another update about the activities on Jinack, The Gambia. This update is especially directed towards the sponsors of the project and everyone who is concerned with the benefit of Jinack.

After the first foundation stone of the hospital was laid at the end of July 2008, construction has been progressing steadily. Because of the heaviest rainfall in 20 years during this year´s monsoon, the construction is three weeks behind schedule. In stead of only the channels that had already been excavated and are now filled with water, the whole surface of the hospital of about 350 m2 has been excavated to drain the construction site. As a consequence, the completion date has shifted to the beginning of  February 2009. The roofing and the rafters will be attached to the 23 columns in December 2008. Then the concrete floor will be poured and the walls will be built in the shade.

We are very pleased that the Minister of Healthcare will once again be present together with a camera crew during the completion of the clinic. The publicity of the first broadcasting proved to be very useful to draw attention form other authorities.

Education

The Minister of Education, seemingly aroused by the gesture of our sponsors, offered to make available not two but five teachers for the island. All of them are qualified teachers and will contribute to improve education on Jinack, so that primary school pupils can now enjoy the eduction they deserve. The foundation has also committed itself to supply all school material such as notebooks, pens and pencils.
