| Update Jinack community clinic September 2008 |
|
It's time for an update about the activities on Jinack, Gambia. This update is especially directed towards the sponsors of the project and everyone who is concerned with the benefit of Jinack. The ambulance -which was donated by Masterlease- was put at the disposal of the local Kutejumbulu/2BaB Foundation on the spot in June 2008 and a driver was hired immediately after to start his job on the 1st of July. Many daily rides were made to the clinic of the district which is located in Essau. The ambulance has also been called in several times during the night for emergencies. For example recently we received notice that a young man, who had been bitten by a poisonous snake on the Senegalese part of the island, wouldn't definitely not have survived this encounter without the help of the ambulance. On the picture below you see three students posing in front of the ambulance. They are already fullfilling their pre internship in a friendly clinic. Shortly, they will start their internship as a nurse, head nurse and hospital administrator. The three of them were born and raised in Jinack and are sponsored by our foundation.
Our future staff, all students sponsored by the foundation, from left to right: Sana Sonko, is at the moment following a two year long course to become a nurse Bubacar Touray, is coursing five year long medical training at university level Nyima Manneh, is studying computer sciences and currently fulfilling his apprenticeship at the Old Jeshwang clinic -0-0-0-0-0-0- On July 31st the first column of the clinic was erected in the presence of the Secretary of State for Health and Social welfare, the management of the clinic in Essau, the local member of parliament of the district Lower Nuimi and the Gambian TV news. The pictures below show:

Construction is planned at the end of September, after the end of the rainy season. First the roof will be attached to 22 more columns. Then the concrete floor can be poured and the walls can be build in the shade. There is also good news on the financial front: the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through their autonomous administrative authority, the National Committee for International Cooperation and Sustainable Development (NCDO), have committed to contribute € 25.000,-- to our project . This is of course a large step closer towards the realization of a hospital in this forgotten area of The Gambia. Of course in order to receive this contribution we have to comply with several demands of the NCDO , one of which is to mention the following on all our publications regarding the participation of the NCDO: “This project is conducted in cooperation with the National Committee for International Cooperation and Sustainable Development.”
2BaB Foundation is more than willing to mention this and we would also want to call your attention to the website www.ncdo.nl , which includes information about the United Nation´s millennium development goals. If you are not a sponsor of 2BaB Foundation, we would very much appreciate your donation on bank account number 26.04.53.315 of Van Lanschot in Almere. We guarantee for the full 100% that all donations will be directly for the benefit of the project. All administrative and travel expenses are paid for out of our own pockets. For more information please refer to Contributions and donations are more than welcome.
