| Update Jinack Community Clinic April 2009 |
|
After a recent visit it is once again time for an update about the activities on Jinack, The Gambia. This update is especially directed towards the sponsors of the project and everyone who is concerned with the benefit of Jinack. Although the earlier mentioned date of completion of end of March 2009 was not achieved, we were very pleased with the work that was done: the building will definitely last a hundred years; the construction is qualilty work. See the photographs below for the result!
The extra delay was caused by the time-consuming transportation of building material, which was done in canoes and with rented tractors and trailers that drove on to the island at low tides. Except for time, this also meant a considerable increase in costs.
The shell of the building is about ready now, the solar power system is installed and the water installation is operating. What remains to be done is the installation of ceilings, sockets, illumination and water pipes. Tiling and painting remains to be done as well and the final work will be the glazing of windows and doors. We count on it that the clinic will be ready for use no later than July this year. See the movies of the clinic:Very good news is that Ballast Nedam has agreed to throw up an emabankment which will be strong enough to allow passage of 20 ton trucks, as a donation. A very generous offer. This means that the isolation of the island will come to an end and that the costs for transportation will be sginificantly lower in the future. This is also good for the coming project of poultry farming and horticulture. And the connection to the main land will be very useful for the ambulance, which will then be stationed on the island and able to reach all villages fast and efficiently.
Movie: a warm welcome on our arrival on Jinack 2BaB Foundation is more than willing to draw your attention to the website www.ncdo.nl , which includes information about the United Nation´s millennium development goals.
