Since the very start of the project, our aim has been to keep this facility running for a minimum of ten years. Careful planning is therefore essential.
In order to provide full-time medical care, we have started by drawing up a building plan that complies with the following basic requirements:
housing for visiting nurses/ practitioners/specialists
a ward with 10 beds
a separate consulting room
a separate pharmacy
sufficient sanitary facilities
clean water supply
We have made several drafts of the clinic and are now busy checking if the final one meets all the requirements. Building will start in July 2008.
Apart from making the first draft, we have also been busy to determine the minimum health care requirements for babies and newborns, such as inoculations and preventive healthcare. A programme for the old people on Kayateh, which are many, is also in the making.
Last but not least, we have looked for staff. After making the necessary arrangements by e-mail and telephone, we were received by the Department of State for health and social welfare and the largest hospital in The Gambia in Banjul, the Royal Victoria Teaching Hospital, and the local clinic in Essau in April 2007 and march 2008.
It was agreed that two full-time nurses active in local healthcare will take turns in working on the island. They will hopefully start. in summer 2008. 2BaB will carry out the necessary repairs to the old building by placing doors and windows so it can be used as a temporary facility. Furthermore 2BaB will pay for the two-year course at the hospital in Banjul of two young Gambians to be selected among the inhabitants of Jinack. After they complete their training they can start working in the new clinic, which will have been finished by then.

The Clinic meanwhile opend in July 2009; further Updates will appear on Farm Project Bakindiki Koto, the recently started new project.
It is once again time for an update about the activities on Jinack, The Gambia. This update is especially directed towards the sponsors of the project and everyone who is concerned with the benefit of Jinack.
Mission accomplished
The clinic has opened! After the final work inside the building had been done the clinic was opened for patients on Friday 3 July 2009, which resulted in 112 patients in four days time, one urgent hospitalization and the birth of a baby. A clear indication of the urgency of the clinic in this area, and a reason to be proudfor everybody who made this possible by donating money or material!

The official inauguration of the clinic will take place in the second or third week of October 2009. There will be music, dance, food and drinks, the Permanent Secretary of State for Health and a few thousand visitors present. This may be a good opportunity for sponsors who want to visit the project!
The building is fully equipped and everything is ready for use.

2BaB Foundation is proud to have accomplished its first target; with the earlier delivery of an ambulance and the construction of a clinic on the island Jinack, local health care has been achieved.
Another success was accomplished thanks to our recurrent visits to a range of Departments and other institutions: government funding was made available to build ten public toilets on Jinack and the construction has already begun. Another step forwards to improved living conditions!
2BaB Foundation does not just commit itself to the United Nation´s Millennium Development Goals (http://mdgs.un.org/), we want to be active in the realization of all eight goals. Besides health care and education, projects aimed at the achievement of the other goals will be developed. The first preparations for these coming projects have already been made: rice seed has been purchased and land for growing maize crops has been appointed. Also, a project for poultry farming is being prepared. Of course we will regularly update you about all new developments.
Only the realization of the Millennium Goals will significantly improve the living standards on Jinack.

Construction
The construction of the clinic has come to its final phase. The finishing has started: the floors have been coated with an epoxy layer from a sponsor, sanitary fittings have been installed, as well as ceilings, fans, sockets and lights. The solar power and water supply system are running. Tiling and painting are about to be finished. Soon we will begin furnishing the building. See the results below.
Staffing of the clinic
We are pleased to report that the Department for Health have arranged staff for the clinic. The Head Nurse, Mr. Sanna Keita, who is working in a hospital on shore at the moment, will be in charge of the clinic together with two assistants. One of these days they will arrive on the island. The Department for Health has also proposed to provide four staff members for cleaning and caretaking purposes.
The expected opening of the clinic is at hand.

The NVCharity family tournament was held on Sunday 17 May 2009 in the Netherlands. This sport event is organized by the Dutch football team from Naarden sv NVC to close the football season. The earnings of the tournament are destined to a good cause. 2BAB Foundation was selected as the good cause for 2009, and NVCharity was able to donate the total sum of € 3,075.--!
The foundation wants to thank NVCharity for this donation, which will be destined for the full 100 per cent to fulfill 2BaB's objectives on the island Jinack, in The Gambia.

After a recent visit it is once again time for an update about the activities on Jinack, The Gambia. This update is especially directed towards the sponsors of the project and everyone who is concerned with the benefit of Jinack.
Although the earlier mentioned date of completion of end of March 2009 was not achieved, we were very pleased with the work that was done: the building will definitely last a hundred years; the construction is qualilty work. See the photographs below for the result!
The extra delay was caused by the time-consuming transportation of building material, which was done in canoes and with rented tractors and trailers that drove on to the island at low tides. Except for time, this also meant a considerable increase in costs.
The shell of the building is about ready now, the solar power system is installed and the water installation is operating. What remains to be done is the installation of ceilings, sockets, illumination and water pipes. Tiling and painting remains to be done as well and the final work will be the glazing of windows and doors. We count on it that the clinic will be ready for use no later than July this year.
See the movies of the clinic:
Very good news is that Ballast Nedam has agreed to throw up an emabankment which will be strong enough to allow passage of 20 ton trucks, as a donation. A very generous offer. This means that the isolation of the island will come to an end and that the costs for transportation will be sginificantly lower in the future. This is also good for the coming project of poultry farming and horticulture. And the connection to the main land will be very useful for the ambulance, which will then be stationed on the island and able to reach all villages fast and efficiently.
All our activities have made the government of The Gambia aware of the existence of Jinack and there is a possibility that Jinack will be granted two state financed projects: housing for the eight teachers we finance and public lavatories.
